NSC weighs in as Senate takes up CTE reauthorization

Based on input from stakeholders across the country, National Skills Coalition has submitted recommendations to the Senate HELP Committee for the reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act.

The recommendations call on Congress to build on the success of last year’s bipartisan passage of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) by connecting Perkins-funded programs with key strategies supported under WIOA, including through greater alignment with industry and sector partnerships and state and local career pathways efforts. NSC also urges Congress to support work-based learning strategies that connect CTE students to real-life experience, align Perkins postsecondary outcome measures with WIOA performance measures, and increase overall funding for Perkins formula grants.

Read the recommendations, and check out NSC’s recent Aligned by Design webinar for further information on how CTE can partner with workforce systems.
