Calibrating to Careers
Staff Development Breakout Session - Thursday, 4:00 - 4:45 PM Central - Room 2
Educators in technical programs have used the DACUM (Developing a Curriculum) process for decades to generate knowledge, skills, and task listings that can be used to revise curricula. SkillsEngine takes these same basic processes and puts them online so that stakeholder engagement is easier and more comprehensive. The resulting skills data can be used to identify skill gaps in training programs, aid job seekers in resume creation, and power other workforce-related applications and services utilizing Texas-specific skills sourced directly from employers.
Calibrate partners include lead institution Texas State Technical College, Houston Community College, Amarillo College, Dallas College, Texas Southmost College, Colorado Community College System, among others. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has recognized Calibrate as an approved methodology for identifying program competencies in workforce programs, and the Texas Education Agency is currently using Calibrate to revamp the state’s collection of career and technical education courses.
