The Apprenticeship Model and the New Collar Workforce

DAY 1 - Wednesday, February 2, 2022

3-5pm:  Welcome & Opening Plenary Session

The world of work is rapidly changing and this requires us to take a fresh look at how we prepare students for today’s dynamic job market.  Work-based learning experiences, in addition to our non-credit and credit training and education opportunities, must be integrated into clear and coherent development pathways that help students quickly gain the skills needed to enter the workforce or grow in their career.

So, how should our colleges and universities respond to this imperative?

In our Opening Plenary Session, we will hear about an innovative and highly successful nation-wide apprenticeship model that is enabling one of the world’s leading technology firms to build a New Collar workforce that meets their technician talent needs.  In addition, we will learn how one of their strategic partners is working with industry and higher-education institutions to integrate a credit-for-prior-learning process for these apprenticeships and other non-credit learning experiences that support students in their educational journey.

Invited Speakers:

  • Stephen Dodd, Project Executive, Public Partnerships, International Business Machines
