Julian L. Alssid is a nationally recognized strategist who has been at the leading edge of education and workforce development for over 30 years. 

Julian currently serves as Chief Marketplace Engagement Office at SocialTech.ai, a social benefit corporation focused on scaling the technologies and methodologies we know to make a difference for working learners.

Prior to joining Social Tech, Julian served as Vice President of Workforce Partnerships at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). In just two-and-a-half years, Julian transformed CCRI’s low-performing workforce operation into a key driver of workforce and economic development in the region, serving over 25,000 students annually. Working hand-in-hand with RI Governor Gina Raimondo and leading employers including General Dynamics Electric Boat, CVS Health, Infosys, and Amgen, CCRI is now regarded as a model community college.

Between 2013 and 2017, Julian helped Southern New Hampshire University to design and establish College for America (CfA), a groundbreaking model which partners with employers to offer project-centered, competency-based education (CBE) to working learners. In just three years, CfA went from the drawing board to serving over 7,000 students through its affordable certificate and degree programs. As Chief Workforce Strategist, Julian's role was to ensure that the college’s offerings had labor market relevance. He was instrumental in building CfA’s B2B model through partnerships with over 100 leading employers including Anthem, Gap, and Partners HealthCare. 

Between 1998 and 2013, Julian founded and led Workforce Strategy Center where he advised over 23 states, the federal government, and numerous foundations on workforce policy and established himself as a leader in promoting effective, practical solutions for implementing career pathways initiatives. 

Julian has authored major studies on workforce strategy. His views on engaging employers and creating effective workforce development systems have received extensive attention in national and local media, and he speaks and writes regularly on the need for policy and educational reform in the field.

Julian has also held senior positions in education and workforce development at the New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce (now the Partnership for New York City), LaGuardia Community College, and the Office of the Mayor of New York City. His accomplishments in New York City included helping to establish the High School Institute for Law and Social Justice at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School, one of the first high school academies in the United States, and designing and leading Prep: Preparing for Profit, a small business management program at LaGuardia Community College that was the precursor to Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses.

Dr. Erica Barreiro, is currently serving as a senior leader as the Future of Work Strategist for Central New Mexico Community College (CNM). Unifying the various projects she is leading in this role, is her work in building bridges between the traditions of the past and the needs for the future. She is influencing policies and practices that leverage the strengths and expertise within existing units, and she works to engage multiple stakeholders and voices to vision future directions. One example of this work is her service as a thought leader in partnership with departments like Human Resources, Marketing, and Outreach to leverage the lessons we are learning from the pivots we’ve had to make, in response to COVID-19, to design our systems, policies, and practices for the future of work and learning.  She is also bringing together leaders and faculty from credit programs in academic affairs with those in noncredit programs in workforce training, to co-design curriculum offerings that can benefit and expand access of working learners to short-term, skills-based learning in credit and noncredit programs, and developing bridges between the two.

Prior to this role, Erica served as the Dean for the School of Communication, Humanities, and Social Sciences at CNM for seven years. In that role, she led the development and implementation of several new certificate and degree programs that bridged work and learning. She also served as a leader on a New Mexico’s state-wide transfer and articulation task force, convened to redesign general education core requirements, and was the co-founder of several equity student and employee teams at the college.

Kristin Gubser

Mrs. Gubser has been at GateWay Community College since July, 2005, serving in a variety of capacities. In her current role, Mrs. Gubser develops college-wide, public-private partnership strategies and revenue-generating/investment  opportunities. She leads entrepreneurial business units of the college, launching new initiatives that support long-and-short-term economic development priorities.  Mrs. Gubser is a member of the colleges’ Executive Leadership Team, and she has sat on numerous board and commissions including City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton’s Innovation District Steering Team, the Discovery Triangle Board of Directors, and the Mountain Park Health Center Board of Directors.

Prior to her tenure at GateWay, Kristin served as the Public Relations Assistant, Director of Special Events, Director of Community Relations, and Director of Special Projects for The Salvation Army Southwest Divisional Headquarters in Phoenix, AZ.  

Mrs. Gubser is a recipient of a John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award, and a City of Phoenix Friends of District 8 Award.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Public Administration degree from Arizona State University.
